SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
ON THE JOB LEARNING
On-the-job learning reinforces what you see in the classroom and teaches invaluable skills like time management, communication, working with others, problem-solving, and, most importantly, the willingness to learn. For underserved students, this is their first exposure to such an environment and an opportunity to build networks and friendships. It allows them to be more competitive when applying for permanent job positions. Project LaunchPad places JTF scholars at the end of the 3rd year of engineering in summer internships in areas of their interest to gain professional experience. We reach out via JTF's vast network of friends and colleagues who are keen to support our scholars. Mentors work closely with the students to prepare them for the interviews and placement in internships and jobs.
3rd year JTF scholars who secure summer internships often have to relocate away from their home towns for the duration. Though employers may pay a small stipend to their interns, transport, accommodation and other living expenses in a new city/town imposes considerable financial strain upon the student and their family.
JTF instituted a Living Stipend program to help these JTF scholars. The program pays INR 5000/week (for a maximum of 8 weeks) during summer internships to support the student.) The funds are disbursed to the students through our partner FFE. Only students employed in onsite internships qualify for this program - not remote engagements.

SOFT SKILLS & CAREER EDUCATION
What they don't teach you in college
In thinking about entering the professional world, students have so many unanswered questions that have nothing to do with subject matters.
As part of the mentoring program, JTF conducts workshops aimed at developing the soft-skills that play such a key role in professional success - communication, networking, self-advocacy etc. The sessions host panels of professionals from various STEM sectors who share their stories and insights help expand the students' understanding and knowledge.
These webinars are held every 6-8 weeks and they are open to all FFE scholars as well as the students from other partners.
