Celebrates STEM Excellence in Joy’s Honor. Each award or scholarship comes with the Joy Thomas name attached to the award.

Joy Thomas Prize for STEM Excellence for the top woman JEE rank holder

The overarching goal of the award is to leverage the standing of the young awardee to inspire a passion for STEM education among school-age girls, leading to an increased presence of women in STEM.


The inaugural Joy Thomas Prize for the top woman rank holder in the Joint Entrance Exams for admission to the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) was awarded to Ms. Kavya Chopra('25). She is now pursuing a degree in Computer Science at IIT, Delhi. The award included a cash prize of 200,000 INR and a certificate which was presented to Kavya by Joy's wife, Priya Pattathil.

A lively and candid conversation between Kavya and Kavitha Gopal ('21), the first woman President's Gold Medal winner from IIT Madras.
